John Edwards

I went to a conference today for work, and John Edwards was the dinner speaker.  He’s now the director of the Center for Poverty, Work and Opportunity at the University of North Carolina.  He didn’t say anything terribly new or profound, but it’s amazing these days to hear a major political figure actually talking about poverty, and arguing for things like raising the minimum wage, increasing the Earned Income Tax Credit, even revitalizing the American labor movement.

He wasn’t my first choice in the 2004 primaries, but I think I may be signing up for Edwards 2008.

And isn’t it just so sad that it is amazing to hear a major political figure talk about what is probably one of the main challenges facing our society these days?

Eh. I nearly caucused for him, liked the populist baloney, but when I checked his bill sponsorship it was much too security-oriented for my liking. Not a great defender of the privacy rights, John Edwards. Didn’t matter; I don’t think he could’ve made it either. All B. would’ve had to do was stand up there in debates and chant “slimy millionaire trial lawyer”.

I loved him and was working for him as soon as I could. He’s smart and compassionate. I thought he got his ass kicked in the debate becuase he looked like a light-weight, the next time he’ll be better.
